Shri Ram Stuti

A Hymn to Lord Shree Ram

Shlok (Verse)

Śrī rāma caṁdra kr̥pālu bhajamana haraṇa bhava bhaya dāruṇam,

Navakaṁja locana kaṁja mukhakara kaṁja pada kaṁjāruṇam.

Translation

O mind, worship the compassionate Shri Ramachandra, who removes the terrible fear of worldly existence.

His eyes are like new lotuses, His face and hands are like lotuses, and His feet are as red as lotuses.

Shlok (Verse)

Kaṁdarpa agaṇita amita chavi nava nīla nīraja sundaram,

Paṭapīta mānahu taṛita ruci śuci naumi janaka sutāvaram.

Translation

His beauty surpasses that of countless Cupids; He is as beautiful as a new blue lotus.

His yellow garment flashes like lightning; I bow to that pure husband of Janaka's daughter.

Shlok (Verse)

Bhaju dīnabaṁdhu dineśa dānava daitya vaṁśa nikandanam,

Raghunaṁda ānaṁda kaṁda kośala caṁda daśaratha naṁdanam.

Translation

Worship the friend of the afflicted, the sun-god to the dynasty of demons and fiends, the destroyer of their lineage.

The delight of the Raghu clan, the root of all joy, the moon of Kosala, the son of Dasharatha.

Shlok (Verse)

Sira mukuṭa kuṇḍala tilaka cāru udāru aṁga vibhūṣaṇaṁ,

Ājānubhuja śara cāpa dhara saṁgrāma jita kharadūṣaṇaṁ.

Translation

On his head is a crown, earrings on his ears, and a beautiful tilak; his limbs are adorned with generous ornaments.

His arms reach his knees, holding a bow and arrow; he was victorious in the battle against Khara and Dushana.

Shlok (Verse)

Iti vadati tulasīdāsa śaṁkara śeṣa muni mana raṁjanam,

Mama hr̥daya kuṁja nivāsa kuru kāmādi khala dala gaṁjanam.

Translation

Thus says Tulsidas, he who delights the minds of Shankara, Shesha, and the sages.

O Lord, reside in the sanctuary of my heart and crush the host of my wicked passions, such as lust.
