A Hymn to Lord Shree Shiva
Shlok (Verse)
Brahma murāri surārcita liṅgaṁ nirmala bhāsita śobhita liṅgam,
Janmaja duḥkha vināśaka liṅgaṁ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam.
Translation
The Lingam adored by Brahma, Vishnu, and the gods, the Lingam pure, radiant, and splendid.
The Lingam that destroys the sorrows of birth and rebirth, to that Sadasiva Lingam, I bow.
Shlok (Verse)
Devamuni pravarārcita liṅgaṁ kāmadahaṁ karuṇākara liṅgam,
Rāvaṇa darpa vināśana liṅgaṁ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam.
Translation
The Lingam worshipped by the best of gods and sages, the Lingam that burns desire, the compassionate Lingam.
The Lingam that destroyed the pride of Ravana, to that Sadasiva Lingam, I bow.
Shlok (Verse)
Sarva sugandhi sulepita liṅgaṁ buddhi vivardhana kāraṇa liṅgam,
Siddha surāsura vandita liṅgaṁ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam.
Translation
The Lingam anointed with all fragrant perfumes, the Lingam that is the cause of wisdom's growth.
The Lingam worshipped by Siddhas, gods, and demons, to that Sadasiva Lingam, I bow.
Shlok (Verse)
Kanaka mahāmaṇi bhūṣita liṅgaṁ phaṇipati veṣṭita śobhita liṅgam,
Dakṣa suyaajña vināśana liṅgaṁ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam.
Translation
The Lingam adorned with gold and great jewels, the Lingam beautifully encircled by the king of serpents.
The Lingam that destroyed the great sacrifice of Daksha, to that Sadasiva Lingam, I bow.
Shlok (Verse)
Kuṅkuma candana lepita liṅgaṁ paṅkaja hāra suśobhita liṅgam,
Sañcita pāpa vināśana liṅgaṁ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam.
Translation
The Lingam anointed with kumkum and sandalwood, the Lingam beautifully adorned with a lotus garland.
The Lingam that destroys accumulated sins, to that Sadasiva Lingam, I bow.
Shlok (Verse)
Devagaṇārcita sevita liṅgaṁ bhāvairbhaktibhireva ca liṅgam,
Dinakara koṭi prabhākara liṅgaṁ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam.
Translation
The Lingam worshipped and served by the hosts of gods, the Lingam of pure thoughts and devotion.
The Lingam that shines with the radiance of a billion suns, to that Sadasiva Lingam, I bow.

Aṣṭadalo pariveṣṭita liṅgaṁ sarva samudbhava kāraṇa liṅgam,
Aṣṭadaridra vināśita liṅgaṁ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam.
Translation
The Lingam surrounded by an eight-petaled lotus, the Lingam that is the cause of all creation.
The Lingam that destroys the eight forms of poverty, to that Sadasiva Lingam, I bow.
Shlok (Verse)
Suraguru suravara pūjita liṅgaṁ suravana puṣpa sadārcita liṅgam,
Parātparaṁ paramātmaka liṅgaṁ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam.
Translation
The Lingam worshipped by the preceptor of the gods and the best of gods, the Lingam always adored with flowers from celestial gardens.
The Lingam that is the supreme being, the highest soul, beyond the beyond, to that Sadasiva Lingam, I bow.
Doha (Couplet)
Liṅgāṣṭakamidaṁ puṇyaṁ yaḥ paṭhecchivasannidhau,
Śivalokamavāpnoti śivena saha modate.
Translation
Whoever recites this sacred Lingashtakam in the presence of Shiva,
attains the abode of Shiva and rejoices with Him.
