Doha (Couplet)

Namo namo durge sukh karanī, namo namo ambe duḥkh haranī.

Translation

Salutations to you, O Durga, the bestower of happiness. Salutations to you, O Amba, the remover of sorrows.

Chaupai (Quatrain)

Niraṅkār hai jyoti tumhārī, tihūɱ lok phailī ujiyārī.

Translation

Your light is formless, and its radiance spreads across the three worlds.

Śaśi lalāṭ mukh mahāviśālā, netra lāl bhr̥kuṭi vikarālā.

Translation

The moon adorns your vast forehead, your eyes are red, and your brows are formidable.

Rūp mātu ko adhik suhāve, daras karat jan ati sukh pāve.

Translation

Your form, O Mother, is exceedingly beautiful; seeing it, devotees attain great joy.

Translation

You created the universe with your power and provide food and wealth for its sustenance.

Annapūrṇā huī jag pālā, tum hī ādi sundarī bālā.

As Annapurna, you sustain the world; you are the primordial, beautiful maiden.

Pralayakāl sab nāśan hārī, tum gaurī śivaśaṅkar pyārī.

Translation

At the time of dissolution, you are the destroyer of all; you are Gauri, the beloved of Shiva.

Śiv yogī tumhre guṇ gāveṁ, brahmā viṣṇu tumheṁ nit dhyāveṁ.

Shiva and the yogis sing your praises; Brahma and Vishnu ever meditate upon you.

Rūp sarasvatī ko tum dhārā, de subuddhi r̥ṣi munin ubārā.

Translation

You took the form of Saraswati and, by granting wisdom, saved the sages and saints.

Translation

O Mother, you took the form of Narasimha and emerged, tearing through the pillar.

Rakṣā kari prahlād bacāyo, hiraṇyākṣ ko svarg paṭhāyo.

Translation

You protected and saved Prahlada and sent Hiranyaksha to heaven.

Lakṣmī rūp dharo jag māhīṁ, śrī nārāyaṇ aṅg samāhīṁ.

Translation

You assumed the form of Lakshmi in the world and reside with Lord Narayana.

Kṣīrasindhu meṁ karat vilāsā, dayāsindhu dījai man āsā.

Translation

You delight in the ocean of milk; O ocean of mercy, fulfill my heart's desires.

Hiṅgalāj meṁ tumhīṁ bhavānī, mahimā amit na jāt bakhānī.

Translation

In Hinglaj, you are Bhavani; your glory is immeasurable and cannot be described.

Mātaṅgī aru dhūmāvati mātā, bhuvaneśvarī bagalā sukhadātā.

You are Mother Matangi and Dhumavati; you are Bhuvaneshwari and Bagalamukhi, the bestower of joy.

Śrī bhairav tārā jag tāriṇī, chinn bhāl bhav duḥkh nivāriṇī.

You are Bhairavi and Tara, who saves the world; as Chhinnamasta, you remove the sorrows of existence.

Kehari vāhan soh bhavānī, lāṅgur vīr calat agavānī.

Translation

As Bhavani, you are resplendent on your lion mount, with the brave Langur (Hanuman) leading your way.

Translation

In your hands, you hold a skull-cup and a sword; seeing you, even Time flees in fear.

Translation

You wield weapons and a trident, which cause sharp pain in the hearts of your enemies.

You reside in Nagarkot, and your glory resounds through the three worlds.

Assuming the terrifying form of Kalika, you destroyed him along with his army.

Whenever the saints were in great distress, you, O Mother, always came to their aid.

In the city of the immortals and the realm of Indra, all remain free from sorrow due to your glory.

Your light shines in the sacred flame; men and women ever worship you.

Those who sing of your glory with love and devotion, sorrow and poverty do not come near them.

You are the youthful maiden, full of virtues, while I am poor, wretched, foolish, and ignorant.

Be pleased with me, O great queen; considering me your own, grant me well-being.

Again and again, I call out to you; save me from the ocean of worldly existence.
