Ayi girinandini nanditamedini viśvavinodini nandinute

Girivaravindhyaśiro'dhinivāsini viṣṇuvilāsini jiṣṇunute

Bhagavati he śitikaṇṭhakuṭumbini bhūrikuṭumbini bhūrikr̥te

Jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute

Translation

Oh, daughter of the mountain, who makes the whole earth happy, who entertains the universe, praised by Nandi!

Who resides on the peak of the great Vindhya mountain, who shines in Vishnu, praised by the victorious!

Oh, Goddess, wife of the blue-throated one (Shiva), who has many families, who has done much!

Victory, victory to you, O slayer of the demon Mahishasura, with beautiful braided hair, daughter of the mountain!

Suravaravarṣiṇi durdharadharṣiṇi durmukhamarṣiṇi harṣarate

Tribhuvanapoṣiṇi śaṅkaratoṣiṇi kilbiṣamoṣiṇi ghoṣarate

Danujaniroṣiṇi ditisutaroṣiṇi durmadaśoṣiṇi sindhusute

Jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute

Translation

O bestower of boons upon the gods, who vanquishes the invincible, who bears the insults of the foul-mouthed, delighting in joy!

Nourisher of the three worlds, who pleases Shankara, who removes sins, delighting in resounding chants!

Who is angry with the progeny of Danu, who is wrathful with the sons of Diti, who withers away the arrogant, O daughter of the ocean!

Victory, victory to you, O slayer of the demon Mahishasura, with beautiful braided hair, daughter of the mountain!

Ayi jagadamba madamba kadambavanapriyavāsini hāsarate

Śikhariśiromaṇituṅgahimālayaśr̥ṅganijālayamadhyagate

Madhumadhure madhukaiṭabhagañjini kaiṭabhabhañjini rāsarate

Jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute

Translation

O Mother of the world, my Mother, who loves to dwell in the Kadamba forest, delighting in laughter!

Who resides in her abode on the lofty Himalayan peak, the crest-jewel of mountains!

Sweet as honey, slayer of Madhu and Kaitabha, who destroys Kaitabha, delighting in the Raasa dance!

Ayi śatakhaṇḍavikhaṇḍitaruṇḍavituṇḍitaśuṇḍagajādhipate

Ripugajagaṇḍavidāraṇacaṇḍaparākramaśuṇḍamr̥gādhipate

Nijabhujadaṇḍanipātitakhaṇḍavipātitamuṇḍabhaṭādhipate

Jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute

Translation

Oh, you who shattered into a hundred pieces the headless trunk and severed the trunk of the lord of elephants!

Whose lion, with its powerful trunk, is skilled in tearing apart the cheeks of enemy elephants!

Who, with the might of your own arms, struck down the severed heads of enemy chieftains!

Ayi raṇadurmadaśatruvadhoditadurdharanirjaraśaktibhr̥te

Caturavicāradhurīṇamahāśivadūtakr̥tapramathādhipate

Duritadurīhadurāśayadurmatidānavadūtakr̥tāntamate

Translation

Oh, you who possess the irresistible and divine power that arose from the slaying of arrogant enemies in battle!

Whom the Pramathas, led by the great Shiva's messenger, who is skilled in profound deliberation, have made their chief!

Who brought an end to the evil-intentioned, ill-willed, and wicked demon messengers!
